Welcome to the Discovery Bay River Otters!
Originally called the Discovery Bay River Otters swim team, founded by local residents Rick and Melissa Pierce 2013. With their first competitive season beginning in 2014, the team was created to provide a local, competitive summer swim league for the Discovery Bay community. Their vision to utilize local pools for a dedicated community team started with 80 swimmers in its inaugural year.
Originally, River Otters practiced and competed in various locations, with participation growing from a "handful" to over 200 swimmers over the years. The past few years, our River Otters compete only during the summer and are affiliated with the Tri-County or Mid-Valley Swim League.
The core vision still stands true today: provide a recreational swim team where individual skill development, goal setting, friendly competition, team building, and most importantly, fun are all top priorities. Each swimmer is encouraged to work toward his or her full potential, and will be made to feel a part of the team. Our mission is to instill lifelong skills and a love of swimming in each of our members.
We are committed to creating a positive learning environment. We combine our teaching expertise with our strong technical swim knowledge to put the "fun" in fundamentals. We know that when swimmers are having fun, they work hard and they learn better.
The River Otters volunteer parent board of directors and the coaching staff shall focus on building a swim team based on a philosophy that encourages values consistent with our community; inclusion and personal development of all active members regardless of age or ability; encourages a sound balance between athletics, team spirit and good sportsmanship; and maintains a high-quality, personalized approach to coaching the swimmers at all levels.
